So-called "black panthers" are actually a melanistic color variant of the leopard. It is caused by an over-abundance of the pigment melanin, cause the animal's fur to be dark. It also occurs in the jaguar, which is also sometimes referred to as a "black panther", though it is less common. Though they appear all black from a distance, these "big cats" still have their familiar spotted pattern when viewed up close.

History: Melanism occurs in an estimated 11% of leopards, and an estimated 6% of jaguars. Due to their rarity and exotic nature, black panthers feature heavily in everything from political movements to pop culture. A popular Marvel superhero features the name, and one of the main characters in Rudyard Kipling's "The Jungle Book" stories is Bagheera, the black panther.

EXPEDITED SERVICE:  Please call us for a quote if you wish to have your items shipped using an expedited shipping service such as UPS Two Day or Next Day..

Items Lost or Damaged in Transit

Please contact us by email or calling in the event your shipment is lost or damaged.  In the event of visible damage, please keep all packaging material.  Stevenson’s will provide tracking numbers for all shipments and is not responsible for items not received that the tracking shows as having been delivered.

They saved my son’s fifth birthday by going above and beyond to help me out after I had unbelievably bad luck finding the Playmobil house that he wanted and is near impossible to find. The first one I ordered from another seller was stolen from my front porch, and the second from a different seller was inexplicably canceled by the seller en route to my house. Enter Stevenson’s Toys, which is literally on the other side of the country.
